Zafarwal/Dera Ghazi Khan: Authorities in Punjab’s border districts averted two major security threats on Monday, recovering an Indian-manufactured landmine in Zafarwal and dismantling a terrorist plot in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Landmine Found Near Nullah Dek
Tension gripped Zafarwal after Civil Defense teams located an 18-pound landmine in the Deoli area, close to the cross-border Nullah Dek stream. Officials confirmed the device was of Indian origin and suggested explosives may have been floated downstream.
The Bomb Disposal Squad swiftly defused the mine, preventing what officials described as a “serious disaster.” Security sources said the recovery highlights escalating risks in border regions, where militants or hostile actors often exploit waterways to move weapons.
IED Defused in Dera Ghazi Khan
In a separate incident, Punjab Police thwarted a terror plot linked to the banned outfit Fitna-ul-Khawarij. An improvised explosive device was discovered near Jadewali cemetery in a sensitive border zone during a joint operation involving local police, the Special Operations Unit, and elite forces.
Officials said the device was intended to target security personnel, but timely intelligence and swift action neutralized the threat.
Heightened Security Sweeps
Dera Ghazi Khan’s District Police Officer confirmed that large-scale search operations are ongoing across tribal and high-risk areas. Authorities say the crackdown reflects a broader effort to dismantle militant networks and secure Punjab’s vulnerable border regions.
