Gaza City, November 3, 2023 – An ambulance convoy evacuating wounded individuals from the besieged north to the south of Gaza was struck by Israeli forces on Friday. Health authorities in the Hamas-controlled enclave reported casualties in the incident.
Ashraf al-Qidra, spokesperson for the Gaza health ministry, stated that the targeted ambulance was part of a convoy leaving al-Shifa Hospital. He noted that a significant number of people were killed and wounded in the attack, although specific figures were not provided.
Israel’s military acknowledged targeting the ambulance, claiming it was being used by Hamas in the battle zone. The strike reportedly resulted in casualties among Hamas fighters. The military did not offer concrete evidence to support its assertion but stated its intent to release further information.
The World Health Organization Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed his shock on social media over the reports of ambulance attacks, emphasizing the need to protect patients, health workers, and medical facilities.
