Punjab’s Crime Control Department Pushes for Major Expansion Plan

In a bid to strengthen its fight against organised crime, Punjab’s Crime Control Department (CCD) has tabled a sweeping proposal seeking vast land, billions in funding, and thousands of new recruits.

The department has formally approached the provincial government for 290 kanals of land to establish new police lines. Alongside the land request, the CCD is asking for Rs11 billion to bankroll the construction of 38 police stations and housing facilities for officers, aiming to extend its operational reach across the province.

Eye on Technology-Driven Policing

CCD’s plan goes beyond brick-and-mortar infrastructure. Officials are pushing for 100 high-tech drones and ten German-manufactured location tracking devices to upgrade surveillance. The department believes these tools will help dismantle entrenched criminal networks, particularly in regions where gangs operate with relative impunity.

Tackling a Growing Crime Problem

Sources within the department admit that existing resources fall short of the challenge. Rising gang-related violence and sophisticated criminal operations have stretched current manpower and technology to their limits. Recruiting an additional 10,000 personnel is part of the strategy to ensure police presence in areas currently underserved.

If approved, the proposal would mark one of the largest expansions of Punjab’s policing capacity in recent years—signalling the government’s readiness to invest heavily in security infrastructure as crime networks adapt and evolve.
